A. Yes. Martial arts training promotes flexibility and other forms of conditioning. In addition, gross motor skill development is enhanced through the training.

Q. What age can students begin martial arts training?

Q. How do I know when my student is ready for martial arts?

A. Students at age levels 3-4 (Lil' Dragons) are invited to participate in a trial class prior to enrollment consideration. Progressive candidates are given an evaluation prior to enrollment. This gives the student and parent a chance to meet our instructional staff and experience our martial arts learning center.

Q. How many days a week does the student participate?

A. For students to learn effectively, twice a week attendance is required. This creates enough repetition to enable progression in the martial arts.

After School Performing Arts
Our program consists of daily pickup from your child's school, a drink and a healthy snack, quiet time for homework, daily performing arts instruction, character development and life skill training through the POWerful words program from Dr. Robyn Silverman noted child development specialist.

Performing Arts Philosophy

Our program is designed to help our students learn to think outside the box. The creative arts not only provide a context for exploring academic subjects, but also assist students in developing important life skills. Students are able to learn to trust, to actively listen and respond, to think critically, to respect themselves and others, and to apply creative solutions to every day problems. Artistic instruction is provided on a daily basis. Because we believe in cultivating a strong body and mind, many activities will incorporate a fitness component. We believe that empowering young people to take care of their bodies will benefit them now and in years to come. True fitness isn’t about size; it’s about growing children into strong, healthy, and capable adults. “All the world is a stage.” Prepare your children for lifetime performance.

Performing Arts Program Requirements

The most important component to any creative artist is an open mind. It is important to us here at PMA that every student is able to create their best work. In order for each student to reach their full potential, creativity must not be stifled. We believe in cultivating what is referred to in the industry as a “safe space” for students to create. Parents should be aware that behavior in class will be strictly monitored. Misbehaving will not be tolerated. PMA reserves the right to dismiss anyone for reasons which in the opinion of PMA is necessary for the safety and well being of others.

PROGRAM RULES OF CONDUCT

•Students will offer positive feedback about any and all creation.

•Students will be supportive of one another at all times.

•Students will always try their best.

•Students will only say good things about themselves and their work.

•Students will honor the safe space that has been created.

********Any student who is unwilling or unable to follow those rules will be asked to sit out.

PERFORMING ARTS DRESS CODE:

• comfortable, semi-fitted top

• relaxed bottoms, pants or shorts

students must be able to move, jump, run, dance, and play.

NO JEANS! NO JEWELRY!

If the student does not have the appropriate clothing, they may not participate for the day.

Summer Camp Programs
Students experience learning through the use of their senses during our summer program. Students experience a variety of field trips and learning excursions. Our focus is for students to learn through the use of the five senses. In addition to the various field trips, students engage in a number of activities that help them stay active and physically challenged. These include swimming, ball playing, roller skating, and other gross motor skill activities.

Campers express themselves creatively! We incorporate the child's natural creative instincts through their participation in arts and crafts activities. Our camp is designed for the child who enjoys an active environment. Girls and boys who like the excitement of continuous activities will thrive in our summer camp program.

Performance Martial Arts summer camp is licensed through the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Youth Camp Division.

Fundraiser Programs at PMA
Performance Martial Arts has been serving the after school as well as summer camp needs of school age children in the Bowie area for nearly 14 years. We have enjoyed an outstanding reputation for the quality of care for these children. Critical to our success has been our relationship with the principals of the elementary schools we serve as well as transportation coordinators and other school administrators. We could not do our jobs with out their help. Performance Martial Arts has always been in the fitness business through our martial arts training. We have expanded our fitness programming to include Yoga fit for kids and the exciting Zumba dance fitness program.

The Zumba dance fundraiser is an exciting way to raise money for your PTA without the hassles of kids going door to door, buying products, holding money, and delivering goods etc, etc.

The concept is simple. A Zumba dance fundraiser is held on a weeknight or on a Saturday at your school. This is a one hour fitness class to the hottest Latin style music used in this exciting fitness program. Not only do the parents enjoy the dancing and music, the children love doing it and it is a great activity for promoting fitness and raising money for your program.

The gymnasium or multi purpose room is the ideal place for the event. The process is simple. PMA will provide the flyers for the children to bring home to the parents. In addition, once we get a confirmation date from you on the event, we will feature your school and this event in the advertising on our website, as well as the Bowie Blade News and the Crofton News Crier.

Typically, the charge of the one hour class is $10.00 with advanced registration and $15.00 at the door. We will charge $1.50 per student, which will cover the cost of the instructor, advertising and print costs.

An active PTA association can easily see 50 – 100 participants in these events. 50 participants paying $10.00 is a $500 gross minus the $75.00 fee to PMA and there you have it. There will always be a few people showing up at the door paying $15.00 for the event as well. As you can see by the math the PTA retains 85% of the gross proceeds.

All parents participating will receive a free Zumba fitness class coupon from our fitness division, J Lo Fitness aka Body by Lo. This can be used at our location in Free State shopping center.

I am ready to help you. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. I can be reached at 301-805-7100 or at jimskarate@hotmail.com
