Our Instructors & Staff Members

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Taekwondo and other martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Here are a few of Performance Martial Arts's instructors and other staff members, starting with :

Dr. Robyn Silverman  (Child Development Psychologist)  Send E-mail to Dr. Robyn Silverman
After publishing in the academic arena during her doctoral years, Dr. Robyn decided to branch out into writing for popular culture. This way, parents and teachers could access vital child and adolescent development information from publications they knew and trusted. Her main areas of expertise is in child and adolescent development, positive youth development, body image, character education and personal development, parenting, and teaching children values in all settings. Because she writes on a wide array of topics, she is open to writing for many different kinds of publications.

Dr. Robyn's work has been published in academic publications (Encyclopedia of Applied Developmental Science, Attachment and Human Development, School Age Notes), regional publications (Bay State Parent Magazine) national and international trade publications (MAsuccess Magazine, Eagle Express Magazine, Technique Gymnastics Magazine, USA Gymnastics), as well as popular online sites (About.com, ElegantPlus.com, Children of the New Earth, The All But Dissertation Survival Guide, PowerfulWordsOnline.com).

Performance Martial Arts welcomes the addition of Rebecca Lynn Davis to our team.

Ms. Davis is a graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Music. Her major concentration is Voice and Theatre Arts, with a minor in Dance, Musical Theatre.

She has recently had extensive training with the Actors Theatre of Louisville, as an intern and Teaching Artist. Prior to that, she taught at the Walden Theatre and the Allegro Music and Dance Academy.

Her specific teaching concentration has been in the areas of Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Voice, Piano, Violin, Guitar,and Songwriting.

She has performed as an actress in various productions at Northwestern University. Her additional experiences there consist of Songwriter, Accompanist and Director of New Voices Young Playwrights Festival and Late Night Cabaret Series. She performed as "Imperia" in Dangerous Beauty.

While at Allegro, she developed a curriculum for Theatre 101 classes covering theatre performance concepts such as improvisation, monologues, movement and playwriting.

Her acting experience consists of training with Andy White from Looking Glass Theatre, Sean Douglass from Remy Bumppo, and viewpoints training with Tina Landau. Ms. Davis also has 15 years of vocal training and 18 years classical piano.

Ms. Davis is also a Zumba instructor in the Bowie area and teaches Zumba here at PMA on Thursday evenings.

Jason Vernet  (2nd Dan)  Send E-mail to Jason Vernet
Jason Randolph Vernet began his journey in Martial Arts at the age of 4. He enrolled at PMA (formerly Kims Karate) starting with the Kids Kick program, and quickly advanced through the belt system rankings.

He reached his first true goal in the summer of 2001 by achieving the coveted Black Belt 1st Dan at the age of 8, the youngest to do so in the Bowie area.

Through the years, he competed in numerous tournaments in the Tri State area and earned over 30 first place honors.

Jason continued his rigorous training and in the summer of 2003 earned his 2nd Dan Black belt at the age of 10. Since then he has continued his training in both Tae Kwon Do and Jujitsu.

His younger brother, Justin, is 8 years younger and is also a strong student determined to follow in his brother's steps. Now Jason is a proud instructor at PMA. He instructs students in the program ranging from the age of 3 on up.

Jason is determined to achieve his greatest while simultaneously help others achieve theirs.

Kelvin Stratton  (2nd Dan)  Send E-mail to Kelvin Stratton
Mr. Kelly Stratton has been studying Martial Ats for over 35 years. He received his Black Belt in Hapkido training in 1978. He studied under Master Paul Yung.

He received additional training in other forms of martial arts including the art of Arnis stick fighting, Brazilian Jiu Jit Su, Brazilian style Judo, Kung Fu as well as other forms of Mixed Martial Arts.

He received his second degree training in 2006 from Sherman's Martial Arts.

He has also studied with world reknown martial artists...such as Joe Lewis, Bill (Superfoot) Wallace Chuck Norris Hakim (the machine) Alston Felix Cortes and the Force One demo team.
